Getting Started

Unpacking the Module

The AL-5010 board ships in an antistatic box to prevent Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). ESD can damage the device components. Users should be familiar with the steps to prevent ESD damage when handling the device.

Warning

Never touch the exposed pins of the connectors.

While conditions vary from site to site, some general best practices for handling the device include:

  • Ensuring that you have grounded yourself before handling the module. Use a grounding strap or touch a grounded object.

  • Touch the antistatic package to a grounded metal part before removing the device from the package.

Remove the device from the package and inspect it for damages such as loose components. Contact ALIARO if the device appears damaged in any way. Do not use a damaged device with any other components. Store the device in antistatic protection when not in use.

Hardware Setup

The AL-5010 is an 8-channel DSI3 sensor emulation board for applications requiring simulation of sensors over the DSI3 protocol.

The AL-5010 is designed for the National Instruments (NI) Switch Load Signal Conditioning (SLSC) system, to be used in Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) simulators.

The board interfaces with NI PXI and/or Compact-RIO instrumentation devices for the purposes of developing, verifying, and validating electronic control unit software and hardware.

Software Installation

The AL-5010 uses two interfaces in parallel.

The first one, the NI SLSC interface, is used for basic communication, including setting the desired routing state and configuration in general.

The second one, the UDP interface, is used for streaming data to/from the device.

Please refer to the NI-SLSC product page for details on how to download and install support for NI-SLSC.

The custom device supports both interfaces to simplify the usage of AL-5010.

Supported environments include:

  • NI VeriStand 2020 and later

  • Python 3.6 and later
